The current structure of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence (HMoND) organisation pertinent to the National Defence Planning and Defence Procurement was established and started operation in  April 2006 and was driven by two major changes:

a. Reorganisation of the HMoND General Directorates.

b. The Defence Procurement Law 3433/2006.

The General Directorate for Defence Investment and Armaments (GDDIA) is the sole authorised agency of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence to conduct the procurement of Major Defence Equipment.

GDDIA is responsible for the design and implementation of decisions concerning Armaments Programs

and Contracts including:

a. Procurement of Defence Articles & Services,

b. Offset Benefit programs,

c. Quality Assurance,

d. Codification,

e. Standardisation,

f. Defence Investment, and

g. Technological Research.

GDDIA’s personnel, both military and civilian, comply with the Defence Procurement Law provisions pertinent to the required level of education, training, and expertise in order to successfully accomplish their tasks.
